Welcome to the SwirlX3D Community Portal
X3D, the successor to Vrml, provides a very rich 3D run-time environment
for creating complex interactive scenes. X3D is an open ISO standard that is
under continual development by the Web3D Consortium. This website is dedicated
to making X3D even more popular as choice for developing 3D. There are examples
and tutorials for those just beginning, and over time more advanced topics
will be included also.
Although the website does have some information specific to the SwirlX3D
series of viewers and other software, the vast majority of information on
this website will apply to any X3D file. Since X3D is an open standard the
files can be used with viewers or plug-ins from a wide variety of vendors.
I am hoping that this website will be a key place for learning about X3D.
If you have an active interest in Vrml or X3D I encourage you to participate
and maybe also submit some work that you are proud of.
Submissions
I will be adding more examples and tutorials, hopefully on a regular basis,
but I would also like to add more content from anyone willing to submit them
to this website. They will be subject to editorial review to assure a certain
level of quality and accuracy.
I would also be interested in collections of low polygon models, either
free or for resale.
I am also interested in receiving any suggestions for other material that
would be of use to those learning or working in X3D.
